The “I JUST WANNA FISH, DUDE!” Walleye Tournament

Official Rules


  1. This is a two-person walleye tournament. (2 people per boat)


  2. The tournament will be launched out of South Shore Boat Launch on Bush Rd in Bridgeport, NY.


  3. Each team will fish from 7 am to 3 pm and weigh in up to a 5 fish limit.


  4. Entry fee is $200.00 per boat. All entries must be submitted online through the Jason Norfolk Memorial website.


  5. All teams will automatically be entered into the lunker pool formally named “Jason’s Lunker Award.” Each team can weight in one fish. “Jason’s Lunker Award”.


  6. No registration will be accepted after May 28th at 12AM. NO EXCEPTIONS!


  7. Boat numbers will be assigned in the order that payment/registration forms are received.


  8. All Cash Payouts will be 75% of the entry fee. The remaining 25% will be donated to the Jason Norfolk Memorial which will go to various charities and a memorial for the community to enjoy and remember our friend for years to come. (This will be an annual event.)


  9. Highest weighting five teams will cash.

  10. Tournament waters will be Oneida Lake and its tributaries up to the first bridge.


  11. Must fish out of a Coast Guard legal boat. You at no time can leave the boat.


  12. Anglers must abide by NYS boating and fishing regulations.


  13. Each angler must wear a coast Guard-approved life jacket whenever boat is on the plane. Failure to do so will constitute disqualification of both team members.

  14. Boats will be checked at launch between 5:30 am and 6:20 am tournament morning.

  15. Teams will leave South Shore Boat Launch at 7 am via a shogun start.

  16. Teams will return to South Shore Boat Launch by 3 pm and must be inside the starting area off the plane.

  17. IF YOU ARRIVE AFTER 3 PM YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.


  18. Official Weigh-ins will take place immediately after exiting the water at Chapman Park and
    must be completed by 4:30 PM on tournament day.

  19. FISH MUST BE KEPT ALIVE. A dead fish penalty of half a pound per occurrence will be enforced.

  20. Should you break down on the water you can transfer your fish along with one team member to another competitor’s boat or if time allows you can be towed in by any boat.


  21. Any team bringing a fish to the scales under the 15-inch legal length will be disqualified.

  22. Any disputes must be brought to the attention of the tournament directors before the completion of the weigh-in. Tournament director’s decision will be final and binding upon all participants.

  23. In the event that the tournament is cancelled, rescheduled, or relocated before the start date of the tournament, due to weather, flooding or location problems, anglers will be afforded a refund.

  24. All participants in the tournament by their participation therein herby authorize the Jason Norfolk Memorial to use both their name and any photographs of the participant for future tournament promotion, public relations, and fund-raising purposes.

  25. There is no minimum separation distance between boats nor is there any particular code of conduct. However, anglers are strongly encouraged to be courteous to all other anglers fishing in the tournament and other anglers not fishing in the tournament.

  26. In the event that there is a tie for “Jason’s Lunker” the following rule will apply. The first-place prize will be determined by the team with the biggest overall catch.

  27. In the event that there is a tie for one of the 5 cashing places the following rule will apply.
    The teams that have tied will have their placement decided by the weight of the fish
    they registered for “Jason’s Lunker.”

  28. Weather- if a small craft advisory has been issued the tournament will be postponed to June 22nd. If the storm continues into June 22nd the event will be canceled.

  29. There will be a mandatory meeting on the morning of the tournament at 6:20 am. If your
    team is not present, you will not be eligible to fish.
